Peter F. (Irish Iron) Toner SOUTH ACWORTH, NH -Peter F. (Irish Iron) Toner passed away August 16, 2023 at his home in South Acworth, NH. Peter was born on June 13, 1941 in Hartford CT, to Joseph and Margaret (Cleary) Toner. Peter attended schools in Simsbury, CT and graduated high school in Hartford, CT. Peter finished his Ironworker apprenticeship in December of 1970 and was a lifetime member of the Ironworkers Local 15 of Hartford CT. He served a six year term in the Army National Guard of CT during the Vietnam era, 1963 - 1969. Peter was a member of the Tri-Town Trailblazers Snowmobile Club, the Veterans of Vietnam Motorcycle Club, Rolling Thunder NH Chapter 2, VT and NH Patriot Guard Riders, Instructor for the NH Fish and Game for the OHRV Safety education program. Peter was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, and Irish-American Club in Glastonbury, CT. Peter participated in many fundraising events/rides for Veterans, and with his white hair, long beard, and retirement waistline, he loved to play Santa for various groups including Make-A-Wish, Veterans, and families in need. Peter loved hunting and fishing but more than anything, riding his Honda trike wherever the days took him. He rode every day he could and it wasn’t unusual for him to pull up behind a plow as they were clearing the snow off the roads. Peter also made the Rolling Thunder Ride to the Wall in Washington,D.C. many times, the last time in 2019 with brothers from the Marine Riders. At 77, Peter rode solo from his home in NH, crossed into Canada and then down into Minnesota for a surprise family reunion, with his brother, Donald. At 80, he was still splitting his own firewood and helping friends with theirs. Peter is survived by his wife, Karen, his brother, Donald (Diane) of Maple Grove, MN, his children Peter Jr. (Jen), of Springfield NJ, Kim Crockwell of Wethersfield, CT, Joseph (Mary) of CT, and Tim (Angela) of Wethersfield CT. He is also survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and an entire league of friends, riders and his ‘adopted’ son, Tony (Sherrie) Fontaine of Boscawen, NH Peter was pre-deceased by his parents and an older brother Joseph of Plainville, CT. Visitation will take place at an “Irish Wake” at the His & Her Farm Barn on Rt 123A in Alstead on August 23, 2023 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. A graveside service will take place on Thursday August 24, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. The family requests no flowers. Donations, if desired, may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or to a Veteran’s Support group of the donor’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home 55 Westminster St. Bellows Falls, VT.
